The distribution of the Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea Pallas 1764) in the interfluve area of the Danube and Dniester Rivers in Ukraine.

M. V. Yakovliev, O. M. Haidash

The article presents new data on distribution of the Ruddy Shelduck in the Danube-Dniester interfluve area in Ukraine over the period 2012-2015. The data on the breeding, number and phenology of the Ruddy Shelduck in the studied area are presented. The basic part of the data concerning the Ruddy Shelduck’s breeding was collected in 2014 during a survey of ponds in 9 administrative districts of Odesa Region. A total of 48 ponds of the similar type were studied (40% of the total number of small water reservoirs of the Danube-Dniester interfluve), on which there were registered 14 pairs of the species. The breeding of 11 pairs was proved. Besides, the article presents data on the species breeding at several reservoirs in 2012, 2013 and 2015, and also the data on registrations of the Ruddy Shelduck out of the breeding period.
