Expansion of the Syrian Woodpecker in the Crimea

The species at first appeared in the Crimea in 1979. At present it has populated most of the steppe zone of the Crimean peninsula. In 2004 the southern border of the species breeding range extended up to the line Sevastopol - Simferopol - Kerch. The average yearly breeding area expansion rate of the species in the Crimea is about 8-10 km.
