Reed Warbler as a host species of Cuckoo in the north-east of Ukraine.

Nadtochiy A.S.

Two nests of the Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) with eggs of Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) were found in Kharkov region on 11.06.1995 and 10.06.1996. Egg dimensions were: 1) 20.8 x 14.9 mm, 2) 21.1 x 17.0 mm, egg weight - 2.87 g, 3.18 g. Weight of dried egg shell was 0.22 g. Coloration of egg shell in both nests was similar to eggs of the host species, that allows to consider the Reed Warbler as one of main host species for Cuckoo in the region.
