Distribution and ecology of Grey Heron in Kirovograd region

Material was collected in 1989-1999. Eighty nine nests were analysed. 26 of these were measured. Within 1955-1999 breeding colonies of Grey Herons were found in 13 sites of 8 administrative districts. The oldest breeding colony (about 50 years old) exists in the Novogeorgievskoe forestry in Svetlovodsk district. Twenty seven pairs were breeding here in 1997. Most numerous breeding colony that consists of 200 nests is situated in the Tishkovskoe forestry in the Novoarchangelsk district. Total numbers of Grey Herons in the known breeding colonies in the region is 500-600 breeding pairs.
