Rare bird species of agrilandscapes of the forest and forest-steppe zone, Left-bank Ukraine

T. M. Kuzmenko, Y. V. Kuzmenko, A. V. Sagaidak

The research, taken in the forest and forest-steppe zones of the Left-bank Ukraine, has revealed 18 species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine. Other 6 species are known from literature. The Montagu`s Harrier, Great Bustard and Short-eared Owl breed in open agrilandscapes. The Great Grey Shrike, Long-legged Buzzard and Black Kite build their nests in field-protecting forest belts, but the Great Grey Shrike also nests on solitary standing trees in abandoned fields. The rest of recorded species use fields only as feeding areas. The most numerous of them is a wintering Hen Harrier.
