The Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita (Vieill.)) expansion to the Crimea

A. N. Tsvelykh, B. A. Appak

Expansion of the Chiffchaff to the Crimea is observed since the 1980s. Starting from the 1990s, these birds sporadically breed in the Rocky Crimea. Nesting sites of the Chiffchaffs are mainly localized in a central part of the Crimean Mountains in the altitude range of 500-1000 m above sea level. Analysis of subspecies of the Crimean birds proves that the Rocky Crimea was settled by the populations of the Chiffchaff originated from East Europe.
