Distribution of the Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina (Vieill.)) in the steppe zone of Left-bank Ukraine and its appearance in the Crimea

A. N. Tsvelykh

The process of distribution of the Icterine Warbler in the steppe zone of the Left-Bank Ukraine was studied. The southernmost populations of the Icterine Warbler in the region originally had settled only in forests of the northern part of the Lower Dnieper fl oodplain and gully forests of the Donetsk Ridge. Expansion of the species distribution range became possible with appearance of planted forests many of which were cultivated already in the second half of the 20th century. By now, the southern border of the species range has almost reached northern coasts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The southernmost settlement of the Icterine Warbler in the region was found in the Crimean Peninsula near the Salhir River Mouth.
