Feeding associations of Ciconiiformes with large grazing mammals, and agricultural machinery

A.G. Rezanov, A.A. Rezanov

Basing on literary data and observations of authors (Byelorus - 1996, Azerbaijan-1975-1976, Nepal - 1998, Sri-Lanka-2005) the paper considers pasture-feeding associations for more than 10 species of Ciconiiformes (Ardeola ralloides, Bubulcus ibis, Egretta intermedia, E.garzetta, E.thula, E.caerulea, Ardea cinerea, Threskiornis melanocephalus, Bostrychia carunculata, Ciconia ciconia, Leptoptilos crumeniferus) with large grazing mammals and agricultural machinery.

By the example of Cattle Egret, which is characterized by an almost cosmopolitan range, there is given historical analysis of origin and development of pasture associations of herons and egrets, starting from accompaniment of wild grazing mammals to following agricultural machinery.
