The eastmost breeding record of Eider on the Ukrainian coast of the Black Sea

Andryushchenko Y.A., Grinchenko A.B.

The most eastern in the region nest of Eider (Somateria mullissima) was found on the 1st of June 1998 on the Kalanchaksie islands near the town of Khorly in the Kherson region. The birds bred on the periphery of the colony of Yellowlegged Gulls (Larus cachinnans). Mass and measurements of the 5 fresh eggs are given. The finding indicates that the breeding area of the species in the region is expanded to the East.
