Patterns of wintering the bird species in the water bodies of South Dniester Region in 1999-2000

In the water bodies of South Dniester Region there were registered 34 species of waterbirds during the investigation period. The most prevalent and numerous species of birds were Mallard (in the rivers and other small water bodies) and Common Coot (in the Kuchurhansky lyman). Total amount of birds was about 7421 individuals in December, about 4506 individuals in January and about 5521 individuals in February. From rare species of birds Little Grebe, Pygmy Cormorant, Great Bittern, Great White Egret, Mute Swan, Common Goldeneye, Smew, Goosander, Lesser Black-backed Gull were observed. Jack Snipe was also registered for the first time in winter in the Dniester region.
