Black Redstart is a new breeding species of the North-western coast of the Black Sea

Korzyukov A.I., Redinov K.A.

The data were collected in 1980-1999 in the Nikolaev and Odessa regions, on Zmeinyi Island of the Black Sea (Ukraine). The species breeds in the Bolgradski, Tanitinski, Berezovski, Kotovski, Kominternovski districts of the Odessa region being also found in Odessa city and town of Yuzhnyi. In the Nikolaev region breeding records come from the Veselinovski, Arbusinski and Pervomaiski districts as well as from some huge towns. Based on the data Black Redstart can be considered as a scarce breeder of the Southern Ukraine. An increase of the numbers is expected in the coming years which is likely to be the result of occupying new nesting sites in the buildings of stone.
